Click here if you wish to try the front-end using an older browser (e.g., Netscape Navigator 3) and the buttons above do not work (e.g., if you get a screen not defined error message.)
Playing MUD2 is subject to the Terms and Conditions. MUD2 is the copyrighted work of MUSE, Ltd. and is operated under license.
Important: if you are connecting through a corporate firewall, or if your browser is configured to use a "proxy server", chances are that you won't be able to use the MUD2 Front-End. This is due to the limitations of the security model of the Java language, designed to prevent unauthorised access to your computer.
If you already have an account at mud2.com, please click the Enter MUD button. The front-end program will ask for your account ID and password.
If you are a visitor and would like to try the game as a guest, please click the Enter MUD as a Guest button. This will allow you to create a persona in the game with limited powers, but enough for an initial exploration.
If the Java Front-End fails to work for you, or behaves erratically, and you are using Netscape Navigator 4 or later, or Internet Explorer 4 or later, please let us know by sending mail to sysop@mud2.com. If possible, please indicate the type of computer, operating system, and Web browser that you use; and, if known, please also let us know the name of your ISP, your host name/IP number (if you have a permanent Internet connection) and whether you're trying to connect through a firewall gateway.
The MUD2 Front-End is a Java application. Java applications are supported by Web browsers such as NetScape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer. The application here has been tested with Netscape Navigator version 4 or later, or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 or later.
When you start the program by clicking on one of the buttons above, several ten kilobytes of program code will be downloaded to your computer. Depending on the speed and reliability of your Internet connection and the power of your computer, this may take anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Please be patient!
Also, when you play the game for the very first time, you may notice occasional pauses with heavy modem activity. No need to be alarmed; it's just the front-end program downloading additional components as they are needed. This method is preferred to loading all components at once, which would result in an excessive loading time for some.
